This year, for the second time since 1968 (Chess Olympics in Lugano), a postage stamp with a chess motif will be issued in Switzerland. The Swiss Post is issuing this on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of FIDE. The Swiss Chess Federation is celebrating this event on Sunday, April 7, with a big event on the Bundesplatz and in the “Bellevue” hotel in Bern.
The stamp with a value of Fr. 1.20 and a format of 28 × 33 millimetres was designed by the Lausanne illustrator Catherine Pearson. The stamp is available in all post offices from March 7th and can be pre-ordered in the post office shops.
The official presentation of the stamp will be organised on Bundesplatz in Bern with numerous celebrities from the chess world, politics and the Swiss Post.
The event will open with the entry of the Chess Olympic torch relay will be attended by FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich and FIDE Deputy Chair Dana Reizniece-Ozola.
