A FIDE Expert Committee will nominate ten players in this category.
AWARD
DESCRIPTION
Awarded to the best male player recognized as the world’s top chess competitor in his time. A player who has contributed to the development of chess both through play and promotion of the game, who has set a good example to other players and, preferably, who has gained recognition beyond the chess world.
CRITERIA
World Champions, best-rated chess players, players with exemplary behavior, additionally assessing whether their career included extending the influence of chess beyond the chess world.
SELECTION
PROCESS
The winner will be chosen in a public vote.
